Texas Defense and Firearm Training believes in preparing you to defend yourself and be able to treat medical trauma and first aid. We all have scenarios where we stop the threat, but in reality, we must be able to stop the threat and treat any injuries to ourselves and bystanders. Handgun 101: Safety & Use
January 11, 2025 - Saturday, 9am to 3pm
This course provides the confidence and knowledge in owning a handgun and how to apply it to your defensive journey. In this course, you can bring your handgun or just show up and see what it is all about. We discuss firearm safety, handgun use, defensive situations, deadly and lethal force, handgun responsibilities, and gadgets and holsters. We want you to leave this course confident that you can handle and use a forearm safely.
Handgun Course Topics:
Handgun Safety Rules
Parts of a handgun and how a revolver and semiauto handgun operates
How to select the handgun for you
Ammo - difference between range ammo and defensive ammo
Handgun use - grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger control, and breathing
Virtual range - you will demonstrate what you had learned so far. No range distractions
What happens during a defensive situation mentally and physically
What happens when the police show up after a defensive situation
Deadly and non-lethal force
Range time - 50 rounds and one-on-one guidance with instructor

You will receive a certificate at the completion of this course. We want you to gain confidence in handing your handgun so you will want to continue training.

Mass Casualty Incidents / Triage System & Save a Life: Control the Bleed
January 18, 2025- 9am to 4pm
Whether you are in a tornado emergency, mass shooting situation, or other man made or natural emergencies this course prepares you and gives you the knowledge to assist during mass casualty situations. We will discuss the triage system to include color codes and how to determine the trauma level. This course also provides the skills to control major bleeding such as gun shots, and other penetration wounds, wounds where objects are protruding out the victim. This class is all about stabilizing the wounded until medical help arrives. In a mass casualty situation, you may have to assist to save people's lives. This class includes the USCCA First Aid Fundamentals Training Book a $35 value.
Treating Gun Shot Injuries
February 1, 2025 - 9:00am to Noon
Are you prepared to provide yourself lifesaving first aid? This course is about applying first aid to yourself and others around you in a critical incident where time is life or death. This course takes you through patient assessment, using MARCH and ABC/CBA's, and traumatic emergencies including Stop the Bleed and using tourniquets, blood clotting bandages, and chest seals. Upon completion of this course, you will receive a CAT 7 tourniquet and a USCCA Emergency First Aid Certificate.

Severe traumatic injuries result from forces as everyday as a serious fall or automobile accident, to forces as unthinkable as a shooting or stabbing as the result of an assault or robbery. This lesson will address the assessment and treatment for a number of trauma emergencies including severe bleeding, a penetrating chest injury, flail chest, severe burns, musculoskeletal trauma (injury to the bones, muscles, ligaments or tendons) and trauma to the head and eye.

This course is a practical course, and you will be in contact with training blood (vinegar and red dye) so wearing clothes you do not wish to stain (washes out well). We will run simulations of defensive shooting and will apply what you learn in that environment.

There is a prerequisite to this course. You must complete the USCCA Concealed Carry and Home Defense Online Course prior to taking the in class USCCA Instructor Course. This is also part of the registration cost. This course is the base of your instruction for the course you will be certified to instruct. We take instructing other instructors very seriously and this 2 day course is 2 days of serious learning and applying, you will be tested in several different ways. However, we will make sure you have all the knowledge and skills to be the best in the field.
